electionsGreen Party candidate Malik Rahim, a former Black Panther and community activist in New Orleans who co-founded the Common Ground Collective to distribute aid to people in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, finished third in the Louisiana 2nd Congressional District special election held December 6. †Running against the scandal-tainted William Jefferson Clinton, Rahim finished third with 2.8 percent of the vote. Republican Anh “Joseph” Cao won. Rahim was the 2008 recipient of the Thomas Merton Award, given to individuals struggling for justice.†
